Workshops for Educators and Design Teams
Designed to explore one or more dimensions of the 8-Stage Learning Design Framework, this is a comprehensive step-by-step process to ensure programmes and courses are constructively aligned and meets both institutional QA/QE requirements and the needs of future students. Individual elements of the 8SLDF can be explored in depth as stand alone teaching enhancement sessions.
- Please be aware that there may be some preparatory work of up to an hour in collecting relevant documentation to bring to the workshop.
- Costs include:
- workshop workbook, guidance notes and ancillary materials
- A1 or A2 learning design posters (rolled) where appropriate
- recordings of online sessions
Who are the workshops for? Designed to support all academics, tutors and designers working in higher or professional learning contexts. Suitable for all adult education contexts regardless of discipline or mode of delivery. Suitable for individuals or programme or module development teams. Workshops aim to practitioners with tangible support, mapped onto regional or national quality assurance protocols, and to Frameworks for professional development and reflection. Each workshop is designed to allow participants to one or more stages of the 8-Stage Learning Design Framework.
Format:
- Face-to-face in-person workshops last either a full-day (7 hours) or two-half days (3.5 hours) to allow for work completed between them. Workshops of up to 5 consecutive days are possible.
- Online versions of workshops are scheduled around 90 minute elements using a combination of synchronous webinar interactions (via Microsoft Teams or ZOOM) and asynchronous tools (such as Padlet or Voicethread depending on context)
- Group work requires a minimum of 4 participants.
- You will be developing your own takeaways as the workshop proceeds but you will also benefit from sharing insights with colleagues as you work through activities.
- A digital workbook is provided, as well as additional materials, so you can share your practice with colleagues back at your home institution.
Facilitator: Dr Simon Paul Atkinson is an extremely experienced workshop facilitator going on for 30 years of experience in higher and professional education. He has taught on four different institutional PGCertHE programmes, developed an institutional CPD programme aligned to HEA Fellowship and is a Principal Fellow himself. He publishes on learning design, e-learning and heritage education, and has held leadership roles in Academic Practice units both in the UK and NZ universities.
